GFA - KL Trip 2010

Thank you for the overwhelming response to this years' annual trip. As requested by some, we have extended the collection of deposit till Saturday 29th May. We have stressed the importance of securing the hotel as early as possible. So please help yourself as we are not able to assist last minute requests as encountered by some families last year.

The tournament has always invited good teams and this year was no exception. We managed to qualify to the Cup competition which was the equivalent to the Champions League while our counterpart, GFA Japan, was to play in the Plate Competition (similar to Europa League).
The top 3 teams (ISA, Brazillian SA and JSSL-Arsenal) in this tournament proved to be the powerhouse teams yet again and while we we not overawed by their presence, we managed to match most of their departments.
In fact, we managed to score a goal against Arsenal
to lead by 1-0 only to sucumb to the very late goals to lose 1-2. Against Brazil, it was an even game with equal chances for both teams, however, a lapse in concentration gave away the precious points on offer. Against ISA, we were determined and strong in defence and organisaton. However we were trying really hard to match their diminutive midfield player who roamed endless with his quick pace and turns. We will have to develop one of our own players in months to come.
On hindsight, it was a very good exposure for our players, teaming up experienced players like Syahmi, Hariz, Mikhail, Nazhiim and Hakim with newbies ~ Ryan, Aniq, Haikel, Firas, Dinie, Danial. To show our satisfaction with the overall performance of the newbies, we have registered our U8 and U10 in the 5 a side tournament
to be held at Tampines Safra on 6th June from 8.30am to 5.00pm. Please inform Coach Harman of your availability by this Saturday training.
We are proud of your achievements boys!

It was dejavu once again.
Everything Coach Din did could not hide the dissappointment felt by all. The only team that did not lose a game yet could only muster a PLATE reward and eventually a 3rd place finish in the standings.
In football, luck played a cruel role in Coach Din's road to achieve his success. However, the road has not seen the end and I am sure he will come back with a bang and leave luck to a minor role in his script.
GFA - Nazri
6th May 2010
Global Football Academy is proud to unveil our new training centre (starting July) in the east. The centre, named GFA - NAZRI will be headed by former Singapore captain, Mr Nazri Nasir (or Coach Nazri as he prefers) and will be assisted by Coach Harman and Coach Din.
Training will be held at St Stephen School field every Sunday morning. More details will be out at a later date.
HOW it started?
The tie-up was made possible after Coach Nazri visited us and was impressed as well as satisfied by the set up and the development philosophy of GFA. With emphasis made on the development of youths (in particular ~ our local youths), Coach Nazri is confident that GFA - NAZRI in the east side will be just as successful as in the west.
Global Football Academy welcomes the addition of GFA-Nazri to the current setup of GFA-Singapore and GFA-Japan.

NFA U14 & COE U16 call up for GFA player
1st May 2010
GFA U14 player Nur Nazli from Regent Sec got the call up for the final selection process for the FAS national football academy (NFA) joining the likes of former GFA player Ehvin. The NFA U14 is currently building their squad for the AFC Cup in Sabah to be held late this month and there are plans to include them in the COE U16 league.
GFA U16 players, Syazwan and Hizami were also snapped and registered by Home United FC Centre of Excellence (COE) U16 team. Although we are sad to see them leave, we know they would only get better.
We wish all our players the best and as we always say in GFA, "Maximum effort and best performance" all the time.

Home United FC U16 bound ~ Hizami & Syazwan, NFA U14 Ehvin and soon joining him ~ Nazli
GFA players in FAS COE U8, U10 & U12
1st May 2010
GFA players ~ Dinie(10), Hariz(12), Mikhail(12) & Syahmi(12) got the nod from FAS to join the COE age groups. Current GFA players in the COE setup are Fathullah(8), Afiq(9), Firas(9) and Haikal(9). Hmmm... looks like GFA are losing players at a much younger age now. Nonetheless, these players will only get better and as we always say, there are no substitute for training hours.
GFA players surprised on visit by former Singapore captain Mr Nazri Nasir
1st May 2010
Mr Nazri was the captain of the Singapore national football team in the late-1990s and early-2000s, and led the team which won the regional Tiger Cup (later renamed the ASEAN Football Championship) in 1998.
In 1994, Nazri was a member of the Singapore side which won the Malaysian League and Malaysia Cup double. After the formation of Singapore's S.League in 1996, he played for Sembawang Rangers in 1996, the Singapore Armed Forces Football Club (SAFFC) from 1997-2001, and Tampines Rovers from 2002-2008. He won the S.League title with SAFFC in 1997, 1998 and 2000, and with Tampines Rovers in 2004 and 2005.

(Above) Mr Nazri still has young fans who were not born when he won the Malaysia Cup Double.

A rare moment not to be missed by GFA supermoms.

Players listening intensely to Coach Nazri's before and after training practices.

Finally a group photo with Singapore's legend - Mr Nazri Nasir
