U10 JSSL Arsenal Super Cup

We were grouped with Arsenal Fabregas and Anza Passion B where the games were expected to be exciting and fast. We played to the crowds' delight with full entertainment value. When we were down 0-2 (1 set piece and a quick counter attack) in the first 20 minutes against ANZA Passion B, our players digged deep and proved that they were strong mentally. Ashraf finished off Nazhiims' cross with a timely flick of the head to reduce the deficit to just a goal.

Again and again we attacked, and so did ANZA Passion B. In the end they managed to cling on to the slender lead while we end up with no points.

Against Arsenal Fabregas, we were at our absolute best. Both had enough opportunities to bury the game, however tight defending and last minute clearances proved to be the major obstacles for both teams,
let alone poor refereeing decisions by FAS appointed referees.

And so our journey ended on a low. While the players were still angered by the decisions called by the referee at the final whistle, one of the ANZA Passion parents who were overwhelmed by our performance walked straight to our boys. He applauded their brilliant showmanship of gritty football, hard running and never say die attitute. He kept repeating his words of praises and just nod his head while clapping for all our boys!

Perhaps FAS should remind their appointed referees that they should stop taking these games lightly and just be professional about their duties. Like trying to be within 10 yards near the ball, regardless of the age of the players! For goodness sake, the field is only less than half the actual size!

Coach Harman says ~
Not all referees are lousy.
However referee with inferiority complex comes about when
1) they are not well versed in the laws of the game,
2) their lack of playing experience gave them poor judgement to their opinion or interpretation of the game and
3) thinking of the outcome even before the game begins (thus we heard referees saying, "it's only a kids' game")

I am only hoping that the attitudes will change soon!

U10 JSSL Arsenal League Final Matches

What a league! JSSL Arsenal U10 Premier League once again proved how competitive it was to stay at the top.

Our players played a total of 10 games while gave away 1 walkover (unfortunately due to a clash of date to our own GFA tournament). We won 4 games, drew 2 and lost 5 (including a walkover) and got 7th overall. Along the way, we managed to take wins from Arsenal Fabregas, Japan FC, ISA Green and Anza Passion B and conceded a walkover to ANZA Passion A.

The walkover proved decisive and it sealed our failure to the JSSL Arsenal Super Cup 2009 (equivalent to the Champions League). Maybe next time.

Look at those boys! Even after a draw with Arsenal Walcott, they were all full of determination and confidence for our final game against FC Japan.
What about a birthday celebration for 9 year old Aniq in between games? Thank you Mr John for joining us in the celebration. cake
